One thing I do appreciate about Europe is their copious amounts of fresh fruit stands for cheap euros.

I first saw the Acropolis at night when we were roaming the area near and I didn’t know it. All of a sudden we turned the corner and I looked up and saw this amazing plethora of gold light highlighting the mountainside and ruins of the Acropoli.  It was so magnificently lit. I had no idea the Acropolis was in the middle of the city, but it makes sense since, in Ancient times, it was the meeting place for all philosophers and intellectuals.

Getting up to the Parthenon is an adventure.  With each step you take you feel yourself getting deeper and deeper in history.  You start at the base of the Acropolis which is just a wreckage of artifacts that date back to a few hundred years BC; most of which are ancient statues.

We made our way up to the Parthenon, but first walked by the Theater of Dionysos.  It was here that it really hit me that I am in Greece. I’m no expert on Greek history or culture, but I do know a little bit about Greek theater.  I did read the play Lysistrata by Aristophanes and even performed a monologue from it for my audition for the UCLA school of Theater, Film, and Television.  It was here at the Acropolis that Aristophanes wrote the play and here at the Theater of Dionysos that it was first performed a lengthy 2,300 years ago - on these very steps.  That’s when a big smile came to my face.

Normally I would bother with papers and brochures; shuffling around trying to figure out what is what; but for that day I just absorbed it all. Let the other girls take the lead while I soaked in the most ancient place I had ever set foot.
